Once again, Monday has come and our family has decided to try to start eating healthier and exercising more. Brooks and I bought new running shoes this weekend and we're ready to go!...we'll see how long this lasts?!!? Usually we make it a couple days, maybe even a week. Then the cravings start kicking into overdrive.
I don't want to go on a diet, I just want to be healthy. I want our whole family to be healthy. A few of us could afford to shed a few pounds, yes. But most important I want us to live a healthier, more active life. We love to be outside and in the summer we rarely drive anywhere...we ride our bikes everywhere! The girls are always riding their scooters and bikes and just running around being kids. I try to run a few miles every week and we love going swimming at grandma Housour's and aunt Ne's pools.
I don't feel that we are lazy at all....our problem is the food consumption :( I know our portions are too big and, well, I tend to go through some pretty hefty cravings. And when I say hefty, I really do mean hefty. Last night, I made up a half a batch of cookie dough and sat with my spoon and a tall glass of milk...that's the second time in less than two weeks. A couple weeks ago, I also had a craving for Little Debbie oatmeal creme pies. I send Brooks to the store at 10pm to buy a box. I ate five or six of them before heading to bed and then polished off the rest of the box before Kaicee came home from school the next day! Seriously, how the heck am I ever going to lose any weight eating like that!??!
Well, today I decided to make a stop at Grandma's Pantry for some cheese. My girls do not like sandwiches of any kind....pb&j, pb&honey, cold meat, nothing. They will eat any of those foods, just not in sandwich form. I have spoiled them with mac&cheese and frozen pizza's. To be quite honest, I'm tired of "cooking" for lunch too. I want something quick and easy that I can throw together. They love cheese and crackers, so I've decided that may be our lunch of choice most of the summer. If any of you have any good, healthy, and quick lunch ideas....PLEASE pass them along! I'd love some new ideas! They are not necessarily picky eaters, they just don't like their food all mixed into one pile :)
I've also racked my brain, trying to think of healthy snacks as well...which brings me back to my trip to Gma's Pantry. I got the cheese and headed over to the bulk section where I found these snacky things as well...most looked healthy, anyone know for sure?
almonds
sunflower seeds
toasted corn nuts
pistachio nuts
raw pumpkin seeds
dried cranberries
squash chips (dried)
carrot chips (dried)
corn chips with flax
oat bran sesame stix
roasted soybeans
Hopefully this is the Monday where the change begins! Here's hoping we can stick to some healthier choices!
