I have loved scrapbooking since I was in high school.
I love all my late night crops with my friends.
even better....weekend getaway crops!
Friday night I am invited to one of these wonderful 'girls nights'
...I'm super excited!
Great friends!
Good talks.
Lots of laughs!
but....
believe it or not...
I'm not really in the mood to scrapbook.
Sadly, I'm feeling the joy slowly slipping away.
I used to love 'escaping' from my week, submerging myself in cute paper and buttons.
Lately, it feels more overwhelming than refreshing.
I will NEVER get caught up :(
My girls are 4, 6, and 9.
In their albums they are 18 mo, 3 yrs, and 6 yrs.
I find myself leaning more towards....
crocheting.
crafting.
I'm really wanting to learn how to crochet.
...anyone want to teach me?!?
I'm wanting to make a cute banner to hang on our living room mirror.
...to which my husband says, "who's birthday is it?!?"
He's a turd!
The list maker in me wants to make something...
and finish it!
Cross it off my list.
I want to work on something for a couple hours
and have a finished product that I can enjoy.
Not an ongoing project that leaves me feeling like I'll never be able to come up for air.
Anyone else with me?
anyone have encouraging words to keep me motivated to stick with it?
check out this super cute afgan.
I want one just like it!
...made by me ;)
Thanks for the inspiration.
I may have to try my hand at this tomorrow night.

MackinawIsland
Last weekend, we enjoyed a little time away with my mom and step dad. Here are some pics from our weekend at Mackinaw Island:
Walking around in Mackinac City
Gotta have a little time to swim in the pool!
We rode the ferry over to Mackinaw Island for the day.
"What mom...you want us to stand in the MIDDLE of the road?!?"

Kaicee and Breck trying out some souvenirs.

Brooks, Kaicee, Breck, and I at the 3D mirror maze
What vacation is complete without a pressed penny?!?

Breck decided that every pic she took could use a little "peace". Taylor quickly decided to copy ;)

And, of course, we had to pet the horses!

Taylor cracks me up in this pic!
Haha! Kaicee looks beyond thrilled!...and Tot is goofing as usual ;)
Whew boy! That was one cold ride back to the city on the ferry!

One of my favorites of my favorite people! Skipping rocks with dad.
Kaicee took this one of Brooks and I...not too shabby.

All the girls with grandma and grandpa.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot...
Two hours in to our six and a half hour drive, we looked something like this:
It was Friday morning and we were told it would take six hours to fix. Mom and I took the GPS and went on ahead to Mackinaw while Brooks and my step dad waited in Grand Rapids. Four hours later, all of us girls were at our hotel and the men were in line at Enterprise, waiting to rent a car. Very long story short....
...this little KIA Soul made the trip to Mackinaw and back home with us....until the following Friday!
Did I mention that we decided to drive Brooks' car to save on gas money?
What a great trip! We had a blast!

ChosingToDiscover
There seems to be an underlying theme in my life lately. Everywhere I go, everyone I talk to, everything I read or watch, everything I am involved in...seems to have the same impact on my life right now.
As I walk through some tough things in my life right now, the toughest seems to be that of being honest. Honest with myself and those around me who care about and love me. Honest with God.
Who or what am I living for? Who or what is it that I am choosing to make priority in my life?
So many times, we choose to please the world..and those who are of the world. We are more concerned with how we look to those around us...and less concerned about how God sees us. We get so caught up in doing "good things" and things that make us "look good".
What about the look that God has chosen for us? What about the person He created us to be?
We all have a past. We all have things that we are not proud of. These are all scars that we carry...but we must choose to not let those scars hover over us and darken our life. We must choose to let go of those past hurts and discover the life that God wants us to live.
During a conversation today, I was struck by something the other person said....
"Stop creating and start discovering who you are."
God has a plan for our lives. He made each one of us and He cares about us deeply.
Today, I am choosing to stop creating who I think I am and start discovering who God has called me to be.

You know fall is just around the corner when you find candy corn at the grocery store...
One of our favorite fall time snacks!
And, sticking to our ABC theme this week....
we baked up some delicious alphabet cookies tonight.

Over1/2WayThere!!!
8 miles.
1hr:29min:48.92sec.
863 calories.
I might just be losing my mind, but a friend and I have decided to train for a Mini Marathon (13.1 miles). We have just under four weeks left til the big race and last night was our long run for the week. Our first time running 8 miles. We did it! We may not be breaking any records anytime soon, but we finished.
This little gem has come in quite handy during our runs:
Brooks and the girls got this watch for me for my birthday a few weeks ago...and I LOVE IT! Any of you who are runners, I highly recommend it! It has a GPS so I can track my distance, speed, time, calories, and so much more!

FirstDayOfSchool2011&SaturdayMorningSurprises
First and fourth grade! Wow! I can't believe it!
It was a great first week of school at our house! Kaicee walked in with no problems, Breck fought back tears and had a wonderful first day, and Taylor was a little lonesome at first but settled quickly into her wonderful world of make believe while mommy got some much needed cleaning caught up.
************************
Brooks and I woke up this morning to find this on the kitchen table:
Apparently, Kaicee and Breck had some trouble winding down after our exciting late night out with friends. They snuck out to the kitchen after we went to bed and had this waiting on the table for us this morning.
...we had to re-toast the cinnamon toast, but it was pretty darn good;)
...bonus, they even cleaned up their mess before heading back to bed!
I'm beginning to wonder if they are up to something....and how much it's gonna cost me?!? I just walked into my bedroom and found this on my bed:
This time, the note read...."We love you verry much. Since your going out to nigh we thought we could help you out by picking our your cloth. Love, Kaicee and breck XOXOXO" (*exactly as written*)
They are so sweet! Especially cuz they think that there momma is one of those super skinny girls with a cute little butt! They picked out a fitted top with leggings (kind of reminds me of the outfit Sandy wore at the end of Grease)...ummm, I may have to make a couple changes so I don't make anyone throw up tonight!

CanoeTrip
Today was our last official day of summer before the girls head back to school in the morning. We packed ourselves in the car and headed to the river for a little bit of canoeing...or 4 long hours, but who's counting?
We had a blast! Lots of laughs, a few screams, and many great memories!
This little Tot sarinaded Kaicee and I for some of our ride. I tried to get a video of her and managed running us into a tree...and now I can't figure out how to upload the video. Oh well. Just know that she was quite a hoot!
Within the first 2 minutes, Kaicee and I managed to slam into the side of the river bank and ended up paddling in a complete circle. Sadly, that was the first of many. We managed to run in to low hanging trees on the river bank (that dropped hundreds of spiders into dad and Kaicee's boat), paddle through more seaweed that I thought existed in a river,
get stuck on the rocky sand bar, nearly tip our canoe (more than once), see LOTS of turtles (we stopped keeping track at about 86),
almost catch a couple of those turtles, and just have one darn good last day of summer vacation!
Hey, we DID manage to do a little canoe swapping without tipping. That counts for something!....doesn't it?
Did I mention it took FOUR hours to float the river?...paddling the entire way because the current was just about non existent. We all had some sore booties (as Taylor would say) and very dirty hands!
We finished our trip here
and ended up at the soccer field before heading to bed for a good nights sleep.
Good bye summer vacation! We loved every day we spent with you while you were here! Now, our outfits are laid out in our bedrooms and backpacks are waiting for us on the coat rack...ready to start the new school year!
